Hallelujah! A Choral Celebration
Three choirs, one voice: a cross-cultural performance of sacred masterpieces from
different traditions, cultures and lands
Melbourne, 27 May 2008 – Three varsity choral forces combine to present a dynamic,
150-voice-strong cross-cultural performance of sacred masterpieces from different
traditions, countries and eras.
The acclaimed Hong Kong Baptist University Choir, one of China’s leading musical
ensembles, having achieved great success at home and abroad, will appear in
Melbourne on its first Australian tour.
Joining this award-winning choir will be two of Melbourne’s leading tertiary choruses–
the one-hundred-voice Melbourne University Choral Society and the Australian
Catholic University Choir.
The concert will feature an impressive recital of choral music from a variety of traditions,
including works by Mozart, Bruckner, Rachmaninov, Victoria (Vittoria) and several
Chinese composers.
It will include a massed finale featuring Samuel Koi Hin Kwok’s spirited Mandarin setting
of Psalm 100.
The collaboration celebrates the universal language of music and the strong cultural
friendship that currently exists between Australia and China.
The combined choir will perform onstage in the newly-renovated splendour of the
Australian Catholic University’s Central Hall, under the direction of conductors Andrew
Cheung and Andrew Wailes.
HALLELUJAH! A CHORAL CELEBRATION is on at 8pm on Wednesday 4 June
2008, at the newly-refurbished Central Hall of the Australian Catholic University, 20
