Piracy
Fed up with munted ravers, chin-stroking genre purists, monotonous beats and fucktard DJs? So are we. Which is why our crew of raggedy buccaneers are banding together to bring you a night of freshly squeezed sounds from our musical melting pot. Everything from mashup to new wave, turntablism to dirty electro, slut funk to that cheesy indie remix that’s been stuck in your head for the last 4 days. Crazed shenanigans, half-assed video game projections, that fat guy on the bus on your way home, and some solid tunes to rock your socks off. Lovely. COMING UP

Thursday 3 May
The Good, The Bad & The Balkan
In the tradition of exclusive launches of such fine musical offerings as Amsterdam Klezmer Band Remix (Creative Vibes) & Electric Gypsyland 2 (Filter Music) those eclectic DJs Balkan Beasts (DJ Delay & Systa bb) present When The Road Bends. Tales of a Gypsy Caravan - the latest documentary release from Hopscotch films at The Good The Bad & The Balkan on May 3rd @ Horse Bazaar.

It’s the story of 5 bands taking to the road on a 6 week sellout live tour through North America, the Gypsy Caravan their differences and attitudes as well as their common experiences. The film goes way further than that as the film makers lived with the various bands in their home villages in Macedonia, Romania, Rajasthan and Spain and provide a unique insight into their lives and loves and provide a unique and non judgmental fly on the wall perspective. The bands involved are Rajasthani Maharaja, Romanian Fanfare Ciocarlia, Andalusian Antonio Pipa Flamenco Ensemble, Macedonian Esma Redzepova and Romanian Taraf de Haidouks. Directed by Jasmine Dellal (American Gypsy) the film has won major audience awards in Europe and Canada, the true test of a film’s popularity.

The Good, The Bad & The Balkan will launch the documentary at Horse Bazaar, 397 Little Lonsdale St CBD from 9pm with DJs Balkan Beasts providing their usual wild mix of vodka soaked rhythms for cutting dance moves…..& extra tasty giveaways.
