“I’m sorry for Comedy Lair incident: George Michael”
British pop star George Michael apologised to his fans today for “for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them,” he said in a statement.
The 45-year-old was arrested on Friday around Hampstead Heath in north London, taken to a police station and given a caution for failing to attend any Comedy Lair shows at Hardiman’s Hotel in Kensington this year, police said. He was also in possession of “class A and class C” drugs, which police just helped themselves to.
The star, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, with seven US number one singles, 11 number one singles in Britain and six number one albums, could easily afford the $15 cover charge for The Lair. Which, police said through the haze of Michael’s confiscated crack pipe, is good value at the best of times however the upcoming October show, on Wednesday the 1st, will be exceptional value for money with headliner Dave O’Neil and MC Rachel Berger. Also performing will be Adam Vincent, Joanne Brookfield and Steele Saunders.
In 2006, Michael was found slumped over the wheel of his car and last year he was given a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving while unfit through drugs. As a result of this, sources close to The Comedy Lair say they don’t expect Mr Michael to be in attendance at the October Lair show, however those attending should be reminded that doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm.
