Featuring 2 international acts, Parisian hip hop outfit Java and Istanbul based dub & electronic fusion duo DuOud, together with Uber Lingua DJs Mondo Loco, Russian Disko & Rashid BB, witness a brave new world of modern world music that fuses centuries-old traditional music and instruments with technology, fresh sounds and modern musical genres.
In Australia to perform at the Sydney Festival, this will be Melbourne audiences’ only chance to catch Java & DuOud.
Java (pictured left) mix up hip hop, Brazilian Samba, reggae, rock, jazz & electro sounds with a circus spirit & manic humour. Their unique take on urban music blends references in a jubilatory cocktail that will have audiences drunk with joy in no time.
DuOud (pictured right) features Jean-Pierre Smadja, aka Smadj & fellow master oud player Mehdi Haddab, who blend their Nth African musical heritage with break beats, jazz grooves & metal guitar using the latest in technology and an imaginative freedom that sets them apart from their contemporaries.
Uber Lingua DJ’s include Mondo Loco who will drop Turkish psychedelic rock and middle Eastern infused Jazz on you, Russian Disko will launch the coolest Eastern Bloc Rock with a special focus on Russia’s underground criminal ska/punk/polka scene and anything else wonderful that non-Eurovision Europe has to offer, and last but not least, expect Rashid B-B to hurl quick rhymin’ Sudanese hip-hop, Nigerian Funk, Egyptian rhythms and Caribbean beats at a fast and furious pace.
