MIKE McCLELLAN @ HARMONY ROW
The Song and Danceman is back, doing what he does best. 40 years a singer, writer and guitarist. Still joyous, still deeply satisfying, still heart-rendingly relevant. He can stop you in your tracks with a quietness so deafening it can shut out the fiercest storm and calm the wildest water.
Paul Speelman of the Melbourne Age wrote, ‘McClellan is a national asset..’ Enough said.

Mike McClellan needs no introduction to the thousands of Troubadour Cafe fans who flocked to hear him perform in the 80s. By the time he became a Troubadour institution, his popularity & reputation had already taken a leap forward back in 1975 when Rick Nelson recorded one of his most acclaimed songs, “Rock’n Roll Lady”, and John Farnham covered “Saturday Dance”. He was a star! Then “The Gamble” shot to the top of the country charts and “Lovers Never Wind up Friends” and “Midnight Flight” were covered overseas in 1976.
And in the time since then his duos with Doug Ashdown and his famous JAM trio with Doug Ashdown and Kevin Johnson have been truly inspiring.
And if you still don’t recognize the name or the music, you will still have heard his songs on the Television or Radio. Australian Airlines heart tugging advertising song “I just had to say I love you face to face” and the call to dinner of “Red Red Ready Red Rooster” are familiar to many from his days at the advertising agency Mojo. Mr Lindeman is eternally grateful to Mike for “The Wine I Love”, and of course there is the matter of the infamous “I can feel a Fourex coming on” .. a beer in Australia, a condom in the USA. No wonder the US loves us .. and Mike. Inventing the contraceptive beer (come to think of it, beer IS a good contraceptive isn’t it?)
Christie Heart has woven her spell over audiences from Darwin to Tamworth and throughout Victoria. Twice winner of the Melbourne, Irish Festival Song Competition for her outstanding vocals, and winner of the Tamworth Country Music Festival ‘Country Song Search’ for her original song Red Dirt Road. Her blend of Contemporary Acoustic, Celtic and Country Folk, original songs and personal favourites, take the listener on a journey though the frontiers of raw and sublime emotion, with grace and style.
In latter years, her music has taken a back seat to Human Rights pursuits and work in the Family Violence field. If anything, these experiences have added a depth of compassion and earthiness to a vocal style that has been described as “Haunting and Compelling”.
Come and see Mike on November 10th. He’s a very clean and accomplished guitarist, a delightful singer, and a great songwriter, and he’s a smoothie & very polished & experienced performer. And come & see Christie too. You’ll be glad you did. Do not miss them at Harmony Row on Saturday November 10th.
And the now famous monthly Don’t Tell Tom DIY Music sessions - Tuesday November 13th.
