Venice and the Islamic World 828 – 1795

Join us for an evening of cocktails and culture! Discover the vibrant cross-cultural exchange between Venice and the Islamic world. Join Dr Stefano Carboni, Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia as he discusses the art which entered Venice from Islamic countries.

Based on Venice and the Islamic World, a landmark exhibition curated by Dr Carboni for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2006–07, this lecture is part of the popular NGV Women’s Association event schedule.

The purpose of the NGVWA is to support the NGV through raising funds for additional items for the NGV Collection. Funds are raised through an annual program of interesting events and donations.

Over the years the NGVWA has been able to add an important number of works to the NGV Collection including works by Andy Warhol, Anish Kapoor, Christopher Dresser and Peter Booth along with exquisite pieces of porcelain and eighteenth century needlework.
