HOLLY THROSBY (NSW) with Guy Blackman
Sun 18 June
Doors 9.30
Holly Throsby plays her first local shows in six months, previewing her new single ‘Making A Fire’ and forthcoming album ‘Under The Town’. It’s the follow up to the album ‘On Night’ and the songs are rich in literary detail and some of the most intimate holly has written. Since the release of ‘On Night’, Holly’s voice has developed into a stronger more evocative instrument. This could be the result of plenty of practice live and/or more confidence in her craft. Whatever the case we like it very much. This confidence was apparent on Holly’s cover of ‘Not The Girl You Think You Are’ from the Neil and Tim Finn tribute ‘She Will Have Her Way’.

Fri 14 July
Doors 9.30
Following a highly successful tour of Australia in 2005 (with The Rogers Sisters), Limited Express (Has Gone?) return to Australia to headline Brisbane’s massive Soobiesta! Festival in July before heading south. Limited Express (Has Gone?) are one of the hottest young bands to emerge from Japan’s famous Kansai art-punk scene. In 1998 guitarist Jinichiro Iida and bassist/singer Yukari formed Limited Express (Has Gone?) in order to make “exploding grooves” in music. Their second album ‘Makes You Dance’ was released in 2005 - a beautifully chaotic vision of pop and noise that quickly lived up to its title.

TRIOSK (NSW) album launch with Qua
Wed 26 July
Doors 8.30
Laurence Pike (Drums), Adrian Klumpes (Piano/Keyboards) and Ben Waples (Double/Electric Bass) are three improvisers who came together searching for something beyond the conventions of the jazz trio. They continue to look for new ways to combine the sound and unity of purpose of a great piano trio with the textures and processes of minimalism and electronic music. This can involve layering of both acoustic and electronic sounds and manipulating the natural sounds of their instruments. In a live setting, Triosk fluctuate between the atmospheric sound scapes of their recorded work, and high-energy minimalist improvisations dedicated to the exploration of the trio’s musical possibilities and limits.
