CAT POWER: SOLO, INTIMATE AND UP CLOSE
Thu February 6
The enigmatic Chan Marshall a/k/a Cat Power returns to Australia this January to perform in solo, intimate and up close.
Her setlist dug deep into her catalogue, rotating between guitar and piano acts. Opening with her stunning take of “House of the Rising Sun”, she included old favourites and obvious crowd pleasers like “The Greatest” and “What Would the Community Think”. The heartbreaking “Names” recalled troubled childhood friends and acquaintances and herring “Colours” and “Kids” again was a true delight. - brightestyoungthings.com November 2013
Mick Turner : Dirty Three guitarist, sometime collaborator with Cat Power and Chan’s very good friend will join the tour for many of the shows performing solo or in band mode presenting material from his brand new
album Don’t Tell the Driver, his first to feature vocals.

Concert for the Tarkine
Launch of Save the Tarkine (Victoria)
In 2014, is Australia the sort of country that puts an open cut mine in a rainforest?
It’s time to ramp up the Melbourne campaign to stop mining in the Tarkine. Come along to the launch of Save the Tarkine (Victoria) for a wonderful evening of music, and let us introduce you to the majesty of this remarkable place. We are lucky to be hosting the award-winning traditional Irish band Tolka, the brilliant tabla and sitar duo Vincent Dodd & Denis Phalan, and highly acclaimed folk singer-songwriter Lucy Wise and her wonderful B’Gollies. We will also be joined by guest speaker Scott Jordan, founder and campaign coordinator of Save the Tarkine.
Tasmania’s Tarkine is a remarkable wilderness, encompassing Australia’s largest tract of temperate rainforest, sweeping mountain ranges, button-grass plains and one of the country’s most rugged coastlines. It is the last disease-free stronghold of the Tasmanian Devil on mainland Tasmania, and is home to more than 60 other threatened and endangered species. Despite its world heritage significance, less than 5% of the Tarkine is protected as a National Park and it is currently under attack from open-cut mining activity. Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes ‘Black Coffee’ Album Launch Tour
Fri February 28

Lachlan Bryan is extraordinary singer, songwriter, music journalist and entertainer from Melbourne. In the past five years he’s released two critically acclaimed albums, one with his band The Wildes and one as a solo artist. He’s written a film score, co-produced music videos and edited a music magazine.
First and foremost Lachlan is a songwriter. He crafts songs with an authenticity rarely heard in Australian country music circles and scarcely matched in more fashionable genres. He’s an old soul. He follows in the tradition of those whom he describes as ‘the real guys’ – the Steve Earles, Townes van Zandts and Gordon Lightfoots of this world. His songs have characters, back-stories, sometimes even plots.

Chain
Sat March 1
Australian Blues History
The originators of ‘Oz Blues’, Chain, have reached another milestone as they enter their 46th year since first forming in 1968.
As the only blues band to have a number one on Australian charts (Black’n’Blue) as well as a number two (Judgement), they also have the distinction of having possibly the longest permanently released album in Australian rock history.
‘Toward the Blues’ has been released since 1971 and has attained double gold album status
Although ‘I Remember When I Was Young’ was a Matt Taylor single it was Chain who played on it. This also went to number one on the charts.
