GROUND COMPONENTS
While many bands pump out an album within their first year, Ground Components have taken their time to put together a collection of songs that have stood the test of extensive touring, rehearsal and recording. Following on from two previous EP’s, ‘An Eye For A Brow, A Tooth For A Pick’ is the first full length release from the band. The band opted to produce the tracks on their own with band members Dallas Packard and Indra Adams showing off their multi-instrumental talents for the first time. Between the two of them they play saxophone, trumpet, flute, clarinet, accordion, drums, guitar and of course piano and bass respectively. Not only are these songs their most elaborate instrumentally, but also the first chance we’ve had to hear the band fully explore their diverse musical influences. Between the collaborations and covers the majority of the album is what Ground Components do best- simple, sharp songs. Guests Operator Please.

KIERAN KANE AND KEVIN WELCH with FATS KAPLIN (USA)
Kevin Welch’s poetic songs paint pictures of real people, people you know, people you’ve seen, so clearly that you realise quickly he’s a keen observer of the human experience. His songs have an almost film-like quality in their vision and beauty. Kieran Kane’s music is adult in the truest sense of the word. His explorations of mature love, friends’ struggles with personal difficulties and the meaning of life lead directly to his philosophical explorations of faith and life on his latest release ‘You Can’t Save Everybody’ (with Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin). The Dead Reckoning collective commit themselves to putting out consistently good records and keeping costs low by working on each other’s records. Kieran has put out four solo albums on the label, as well as a live album with Kevin Welch recorded in Australia.

THAT 1 GUY (USA)
Mike Silverman (a.k.a. That 1 Guy) will return to Melbourne after his acclaimed festival appearances early 2007. His debut record, Songs In The Key Of Beotch showcases a spectacular musical instrument: The Magic Pipe of which he is the inventor and master. For years, That 1 Guy has been stunning crowds with his remarkably peculiar one-man show, applying his stand-up bass prowess to the monstrous, homemade instrument. Standing nearly seven feet tall, The Magic Pipe is a chaotic collage of galvanized steel, duct tape and electronic gadgetry, run through an array of samplers and effects boxes. The album’s opening song, “One,” sounds a bit like Soul Coughing, Tom Waits, The Neptunes and Brian Eno having a tea party on the moon. “That 1 Guy, Live in the land of OZ”, DVD recorded New Years Eve at last years Woodford festival in Queensland is out now. Guest C.C. Martini.
