Phoenix Theatre presents Louis Nowra’s The Marvellous Boy
Greed, ambition and betrayal make a dangerous cocktail
Phoenix Theatre presents Louis Nowra’s The Marvellous Boy
Directed by Andrew Castle
Luke embarks on a crash course in managing the company after his father Malcolm learns he has terminal cancer. Luke is hungry to prove himself and is a definite risk-taker.
His journey will take him from ignorance to the terrible truth about his father’s ruthless lust for power… as well as lead him to confront his own vulnerability.
Taking its name from romantic poet William Wordsworth’s famous phrase for Thomas Chatterton, the play, by Australian theatre icon Louis Nowra, is the second part of a trilogy about dynastic succession and a family at war. It stands alone in its own right as a powerful, important and very entertaining Australian drama.
North Shore-based Phoenix Theatre Company is famous for its vibrant productions of challenging Australian and international plays.
This taut, sometimes funny, sometimes confronting family drama is no exception!
Directed by Andrew Castle, the production stars Ross Scott as Malcolm and Kate Pienaar as Esther, along with Luke Pavlakis as ambitious son Luke, Matt Thomson as his mentor Ray, and Geordie Worland as Victor. Lighting and sound design by Casey Moon-Watton.
