MAGIC DIRT
Thursday 5 Jul
Magic Dirt return with not one but two albums. The twin sisters are here - Roky’s Room & Beast! Roky’s Room is the album Magic Dirt have long threatened to make. It’s the sound of amps blowing, strings breaking & electrical circuitry pushed beyond its limits. 11 tracks of screaming, howling guitars……there’s no room for drums or vocals on this one. The band teamed up with some of their favourite guitar terrorists & together they headed to Birdland Studios, plugged in & turned it way up. The songs don’t have names, they have numbers. Beast is the slightly more ‘adjusted’ sister. This is Magic Dirt in flat out, 4 to the floor rock & roll mode. Beast is a collection of 7 of the bands most intense psycho-drama workouts. While Adalita’s lyrics take you to some dark places & force you to take a look around, the band menace you with their dirtiest primal grind yet. Lyrically & sonically, this is the sound of Magic Dirt at its most focused. Tix $19.80 + bf and $22 at the door.
67 SPECIAL
Friday 6 Jul
Since the release of the debut album (The World Can Wait) in August 2005, 67 Special have been touring Oz consistently and recently spent 5 weeks in the studio recording with US producer Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Tom Waits, Kings of Leon). The band took up residence at Mangrove Studios (1 hr north of Syd) living in isolation… away from the vices of city life. The only pleasures being copious amounts of weed, pina coladas and cabel TV. 67 Special will be releasing the new single in March 2007 and the spankin’ new album will be released in June 2007 through WarnerMushroom. Look out for video clips and new songs on the radio in the next few weeks. 67 Special will be gigging from February - right through to the date of our imminent death in a plane crash. With First Time Hookers & Artinem. Tix $12 + bf.

BLUELINE MEDIC
Thursday 12 Jul
Blueline Medic have always been stuck in a strange place. They’re noted as being “too clever for their own good”, a nod to their mathematically precise punk-sourced arrangements, a penchant for an unconventional hook, and Donnie Dureau’s thoughtful, at times obtuse lyricism. Their recordings require effort and more importantly patience, each layer revealing itself in no one’s time but its own. New album 42:19 is no different- the third full length album from Blueline Medic. Drenched with their signature unabashed melodies and succinctly positioned harmonies, they have nailed an album of their very own classics while managing to extend their musical and production reach far beyond previous outings. Tix $12 at the door.

Run by the Australasian Association of Campus Activities, it’s the largest band competition in the southern hemisphere. “In the tradition of Ohio’s The Black Keys and Detroit’s The White Stripes, Melbourne now has a scrawny white boy blues group to call its own.” - Liam Houlihan, Melbourne’s MX paper. Bastardised full-tilt blues with a rock’n'roll attitude. With the Whiskey Go Gos. Tix $13 + bf and $15 at the door.

Along with Mark he is joined by Bruce Reid, an accomplished Canadian guitar slinger and drum wizard Pete Drummond. They all sing and you will too.
