The follow up - ‘Suburban Songbook’ - recorded in Nashville is an album of songs about home by someone who spends a lot of time away from it - an Indie kid writing pop songs on an acoustic guitar with a country twang. ?…Bob Evans is more me than Kevin Mitchell from Jebediah is! MY FRIEND THE CHOCOLATE CAKE

‘Chocolate Cake’ has carved out a 15-year, five-album history. David Bridie vocals/piano and cellist Helen Mountfort were playing in globally acclaimed ambient/world music ensemble Not Drowning Waving when they opted to unplug and unwind with a few more breezy compositions. The albums ‘Brood’ and ‘Good Luck’, scooped ARIA’s Best Adult Contemporary Album awards in ‘95 and ‘97. Three triumphant seasons at the Edinburgh Festival bought them more international renown. MONSTER NIGHT OF ROCK - Guage + Wallow + Porcelain Militia + First Time Hookers
Friday 26th August
Rubys infamous local band night - showcasing the finest local rockers and having bloody good fun. It all kicks off this month at 9:30pm with roots rockers Wallow. Then newly formed Porcelain Militia kick the stage wide open : tight rock with some seriously experienced muso’s. Then its local hero Guage charging with thier funky as indie rock vibes. To round it all off those party cock rockers, the First Time Hookers charge it all to hell. Four flavours of rock, one place, one time.

THE JOSH OWEN BAND + CHRIS WINTERTON QUARTET + MORDI

Josh plays brilliant soulful blues rock - 70’s inspired and deeply brilliant. He has played with The Beautiful Girls, BOMBA, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Roachford, Love Outside Andromeda, Ross Wilson, Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows, Pornland, Kerri Simpson, and numerous others. A rising star worth seeing.

HOLIDAYS ON ICE is a new Australian collaboration featuring Angie Hart (FRENTE, SPLENDID), Dean Manning (LEONARDO’S BRIDE), Naomi Radom (CODA) and Tracy Ellis (KNIEVEL) Holiday on Ice is a sweet sounding band that will remind you of all the fine, small intricate things that make up the days of your life.

THE PICTURES + LORDS OF GRAVITY + JACK IN THE GREEN

The Pictures are returning to Ruby?s after their successful Pieces of Eight national tour. They?re in fine form and will be making the trip to Belgrave, to show us just how they Rock. The lead guitarist, Davey Lane, is from You Am I and the Wrights will be strutting across our stage so get in early as this is going to be another huge night at Ruby?s Lounge Friday the 2nd of September.
Special appearance by the astonishingly good Lords of Gravity plus Jack in the Green.

VIKA and LINDA

This sister act has enjoyed taking time out from the road, but now that Vika has had her baby, they are packing up the basinet and returning to Ruby?s. With their soulful sound that will send shivers up and down your spine and make the hairs on your arms stand on end. They will be gracing the stage on the Saturday the 3rd of September. $18+ bf / $20

ETWA (East Timor Women Australia) FUNDRAISER

This is an event not to be missed; with displays of East Timorese Handcrafts and Weaving there will also be Traditional Foods, Coffee and acoustic music from 2pm till 6pm with free entry. Then from 6pm till late, Ruby?s will grooving to the sound of Heath King, The Dili Allstars, OSME, My Big Friends and Ben Kelly & friends. This is a non-smoking event. $8 Waged $6 Unwaged. Sunday the 4th of September.
