Seane Keane

Filed under: Gigs, General — site admin @ 10:12 pm

Thursday 17th March (St Patrick’s Night), The Basement, Ph:02 9251 2797 www.thebasement.com.
As a folk singer, Séan Keane is now firmly established as one of Ireland’s most renowned performers both in Ireland and abroad. For the fifth year running he has been voted Best Male Folk singer by the readers of Irish Music Magazine - no mean feat. He was chosen Best Contemporary Male in the Irish World Awards in London and was nominated for a Meteor Award in the Country music section.

His innate and awesome musicality allows him to transcend his traditional origins and produce stunning re-interpretations of material as diverse as Sting’s Fields of Gold or Paul McCartney’s Blackbird. His versions of both were obvious highlights during his sold-out gig in the ever-wonderful Vicar Street

He is joined by John McLoughlin on guitar and backing vocals, Sean Regan on fiddle and backing vocals, and Damian Evans on upright bass and backing vocals.

Plus from Edinburgh Simon Thoumire (Concertina) & Divid Milligan (Grand Piano)
“If you could pick a word to use after a Simon Thoumire and David Milligan Concert it had to be ‘wow’. However, to come out and say ‘wow’ would be just a crime. To do their concert justice you would have to run down the main street of Ikaalinen and scream it at the top of your voice WOW!” (www.accordions.com)
This review was received after a sellout concert at Sata-Häme Soi, Accordion Festival in Ikaalinen, Finland. Simon (concertina) and David (piano) first met whilst playing on a tour of Germany with Seannachie. It was clear that their playing complemented each others styles and they decided to make a CD together. The CD “The Big Day In” was launched at Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours festival in October 2001. Since then they have played all over the UK and Europe
