Tété: Only Melbourne Show

Filed under: Tours — site admin @ 7:14 am

Tété may not be a household name in Australia just yet, but that situation is set to change with his debut tour here from Dec 07 – Jan 08.

It could be the West Indian blood running in his veins, or the Beatles heritage he grew up listening to that has formed Tété’s distinctive sound – but who cares about pigeonholes when talking about an artist who has sold over half a million records since his debut release in 2001, and sold out legendary venue The Olympia five times in one year?

One of France’s most well regarded song writers, Tété started out playing bars and cafés; just him and his guitar, perpetuating the spirit of the songwriters rather than that of the griots of his native Dakar. The African born, French raised alternative singer/songwriter loves melodies above all, just as long as the mixture is blues tainted. Described as ‘terribly human’, his music blends the pop, folk and blues based influences that shaped his early musical life.

All 3 of Tété’s albums (2001’s L’Air de Rien; 2003’s A La faveur de l’Automne; and 2006’s Le Sacre des Lemmings) have now been certified “Double Gold” in his homeland for sales of more than 150 000 copies. A remarkable achievement for a self-taught alternative musician anywhere.

With performances booked throughout the festival season, including Woodford, Peats Ridge, Music by the Sea and the Cygnet Folk Festival, as well as his own solo shows at premier music venues including The Vanguard and the Northcote Social Club, Tété is excited to finally be able to introduce his music to Australia.

Make the time to see this world-class performer in an intimate environment in his only Melbourne show.
