JUST ANNOUNCED…
SUBHUMANS (UK)
with Vicious Circle, Spew ‘n Guts and Dixon Cider
Monday 17 September 2012 7:30pm
September 2012 welcomes the arrival of a defining name of 1980s British Punk Rock: Subhumans. This will be the band’s first ever Australasian tour and features the 1981 line-up of Dick, Trotsky, Bruce and Phil that recorded their debut EP “Demolition War” in 1981 along with classic albums such as ‘The Day The Country Died.’ They were an integral part of the UK anarcho-punk scene. Since reforming in 1998, Subhumans have released a live album for the infamous Fat Wreck Chords, a new set of studio tracks, ‘Internal Riot’ on the band’s own Bluurg label, as well as playing to packed venues throughout the world, including headlining festivals like Rebellion. Click here get a taste of front man Dick Lucas’ on stage energy as the band perform ‘Internal Riot’ and ‘Joe Public’ live in Cambridge last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQcVa5iFJW0

Saturday 23 June 2012 8:30pm
To celebrate the release of their much anticipated second album, ‘2’, set for release this May, Ned Collette and Wirewalker will perform this album launch. It’s been over two years since Melbourne musician Ned Collette relocated to Berlin. Written mostly during Collette’s first year in the Germany capital, ‘2’ explores themes of distance and restarting, taking up arms against the neighbours, fantasies of death and decline after the party, butterflies, salad, altering cities and forgotten home. The album also features an instrumental tribute to late Chilean writer Roberto Bolano. While this is the second Wirewalker record, the title also refers to the fact that the album is essentially collaboration between Collette and Talia. SHAUN KIRK
with Austin Busch
Sunday 24 June 2012 8:00pm
It was a broken ankle at the age of 17 that forced Shaun Kirk into sitting still and subsequently into discovering a passion for music. Having written his first song in a hospital bed, Shaun soon realised an irrefutable feel for the blues. Since the independent release of his award winning debut album ‘Cruisin’ in 2010, Shaun has been captivating audiences across the country. With a bevy of new material, Kirk’s first full-length album, ‘Thank You for Giving Me the Blues’, sees the 23-year-old troubadour take a leap in musical maturity. The album, which offers seven original tracks and three covers, including this Bo Diddley classic, ‘Who Do You Love’, has all the passion and vigour you can ask for in a contemporary blues and soul record. Topped off by a cameo performance with Australian blues legend Lloyd Spiegel and Shaun’s resilient, grinding vocal abilities, this is Kirk’s most accomplished work to date. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5GNVbqjJkQ&feature=plcp

THE GOOD SHIP (album launch)
with The Bon Scotts and The Stillsons
Friday 6 July 2012 8:30pm
Let’s get one thing straight: The Good Ship is a very bad ship. Drawing inspiration from fellow denizens of the deep like Nick Cave, The Decemberists and The Pogues, their pelagic folk rock charts some dark and dangerous waters, and a more mangy, cross-bred collection of influences, from gypsy to bush-band via cabaret, country and rock you’ll not hear. In the world of The Good Ship it’s the good stuff that sinks to the bottom. Live, The Good Ship are a seething maelstrom of decadent musicality, with up to nine members on stage at any one time and a whole heap of archaic instrumentation from mandola, lagerphone, fiddle and trumpet to accordion. THE SPHERES (single launch) - Matinee Show
with Ollie Olsen
Sunday 22 July 2012 2:00pm
The Spheres are an experimental AV ensemble from Melbourne. A cadre of five, comprised of musicians, film makers and animators, they are interested in exploring the cross over between live music and visual projection. First forming in 2002, the band quickly joined Melbourne’s experimental music scene. Initially playing loosely composed musical scores to visuals dubbed to video, more recent performances have included additional ensemble members mixing and sequencing visual loops and silent short films live with an inventory of computers, distribution amplifiers and a tangled web of leads carrying signal paths to multiple projectors. Projections tell stories of passing time near and far – of falling leaves, rural Indian love, a life in pictures and of birds taking flights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cZBsvRK3qs&feature=plcp

THE DC3
with The Wreck Tangle and Quang Dinh & Band
Saturday 4 August 2012 8:30pm
The DC3 plus a… drummer??!! Yes, in the great tradition of politicians, reality TV, romance, and, well, life in general, ‘The DC3’ is a lie because there’s four of them. Flushed with the heady excitement of internal contradiction, The DC3 are pleased to announce whizz-bang drummer Jeremy Hopkins was such fun to play with during their brief ‘ROOT!’ reunion tour in February that he will be joining the band on stage for this show. Rumour has it that Jeremy has been recording tracks with The DC3 for their forthcoming album and you’ll get the chance to hear some of them (along with some ‘songs that won’t be on the DC3 album’) live, in full crash bang wallop glory. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL60339D1B1C1C5CEA&feature=plcp

OBITS (USA)
with special guests
Friday 24 August 2012 8:30pm
Obits are a Brooklyn-based mildly mannered, shaggy garage, punk-rock four piece, heading south of the equator on their first Australian tour. As a band, the Obits are but wee infants, yet, as a ‘muso’ collective they have a smashing long pedigree. Fronted by singer/writer/guitarist Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Pitchfork), the band have two albums out on the suitably pedigreed SubPop label distributed by Inertia in Australia. With a stripped-down rock sound, incorporating elements of surf and garage, the band’s repertoire of three-minute yowlers, sutures a sweet and sonic sound. The band is, by its members’ own admissions, a straightforward proposition. Simply, to rock you some, and to roll you some. Watch the ‘You Gotta Lose’ video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2B3YzWMzX8&feature=plcp

HAYES CARLL (USA)
with Kirsty Akers
Saturday 25 August 2012 8:30pm
Hayes Carll hasn’t been resting on his laurels since topping critics’ polls and winning awards for his 2008 album, ‘Trouble in Mind’. Instead, he’s been on the road nearly nonstop with his band, blasting through honky tonks and rock clubs across the U.S. and beyond. Along the way he’s been inspired to write a crop of new tunes that the acclaimed songwriter says are “a layman’s take on our country – a snapshot of America in some small way.” The result is the sharply drawn collection ‘KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories)’, comprising fiery rock, twangy country, pensive folk and even a touch of gospel. A military acronym standing for “Kiss My Ass Guys, You’re on Your Own”, the title track is one of a dozen songs that brings to life such rich characters as its protagonist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=susjcXPF2e4

Resplendent with driving riffs, rolling vocals and peppered with just the right amount of hand claps, ‘Cherry Lips’ is a laconic pop gem that galvanizes Loon Lake’s reputation as a band to watch in 2012. ‘Cherry Lips’ here. http://soundcloud.com/loon-lake/loon-lake-cherry-lips

FUTURE ISLANDS (USA)

Wednesday 19 September 2012 8:00pm
Baltimore trio Future Islands’ romantic synth sound scales new heights with their third album ‘On the Water.’ No doubt that ‘On the Water’ will translate spectacularly live, with Future Islands’ distinct Bowie-esque vocals and lush instrumentation resulting in their most ambitious and fully realised statement yet. Having been on the road touring worldwide since 2006 and with three albums behind them they’re finally bringing their visceral performance to Australian shores. With NME referring to ‘On the Water’ as ‘unsurprisingly stellar’ and ‘a thing of no small beauty’ this will surely be one not to miss! WARBRINGER (USA)
with In Malice’s Wake, Desecrator and Sewercide
Saturday 13 October 2012 7:30pm
In music, there are leaders and there are followers. For every blistering riff there is an imitator. For each impassioned bellow, a sound-alike. WARBRINGER did not invent their own vein of metal. They were preceded by greats like Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Anthrax and the almighty Metallica, but over the course of their previous two albums, they have managed to construct songs that are equal parts ferocity and finesse, and in doing so, created a sound that is distinctly their own. With the release of ‘Worlds Torn Asunder’, WARBRINGER are poised to take their rightful place at the table alongside the big boys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xDqjJEe1L4
Ticket: $30.00 ($3.00 bf)
