The Rainbow Hotel is back!
At the end of 2007 we shed a tear as we bid farewell to Fitzroy’s World Famous Rainbow Hotel. An institution in Melbourne’s live music scene and the national blues and roots scene, it was a significant loss for artists and punters alike.
Now, at the beginning of March 2008, we can rejoice because, Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rainbow Hotel is back in business!
Two brothers, Chris and Cameron Strachan, have taken over the lease for The Rainbow and have re-painted, re-carpeted, put in a new PA and are ready to whet our blues/roots appetite with music six nights a week.
Already in March we’ve got residencies set up for guitar virtuoso Lloyd Spiegel (Thursdays), long-time favourites the Paul Williamson Hammond Combo (last Monday of every month) and 8-piece Blues/Soul band The MoTunes (Sundays). We’ve also got gigs from favourite Blues-man Dutch Tilders, party bands The Sure Shot Hunters and Fats Wah Wah, the country-esque twang of The Wagons, interstate blues-harp player ‘Continental’ Robert Susz, plus many more!
THIS SATURDAY 1st OF MARCH will kick off proceedings with the Rainbow Hotel relaunch - an eight hour blues extravaganza from 4pm featuring the Young Guns of Blues, The Detonators, the Chris Mawer Band, Dutch Tilders, and Fireside Bellows featuring Jordie Lane and Tracy McNeil.
This Saturday afternoon we invite you to shake off those lack-of-blues blues, come down for a beer and welcome the Rainbow Hotel back. Hope to see you there!

The new and massively IMPROVED Rainbow Hotel is back and absolutely fantastic… it is the warm local environment that we all love, the promotes and supports the local, national and tried and true talent!
Support the Rainbow… it is an institution and worth keeping around - particularly when the ‘new kids on the block’ support all the positive aspects that we all loved.
