Traditional Music Session - Illawarra Folk Festival

Filed under: folk music, Festivals & Major Events — site admin @ 8:44 am

Traditional Music Session, 1pm to 4pm, Saturday 28 April, Bulli Heritage Hotel

Sessions are a traditional form of socialising with the joy of music.
Many festivals have tune sessions but at times it is difficult to join in unless you know the tunes. The aim is to provide an opportunity to share and learn traditional folk tunes in an informal atmosphere. There will be a number of traditional musicians in attendance to assist with this. The tunes will generally be of Celtic, Australian origin with the odd venture into French Canada, Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Gypsy, Cajun and any good folk tune from around the world! Musicians will be welcome to bring along traditional tunes to share as well.

There are some sample Australian dance tunes available from the net from the Wongawilli Colonial Dance Club website from the following links:

http://www.wongawillicolonialdance.org.au/australiantunes1.pdf - 32 tunes
http://www.wongawillicolonialdance.org.au/australiantunes2.pdf - 14 tunes

The sessions will be held at the end of each month generally on Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm leading up to the Illawarra Folk Festival in January 2008 (to be held 17-20 January 2008).

The dates for the coming sessions are: Saturday 28 April ||
Saturday 19 May || Saturday 23 June || Saturday 25 August
