Victorian Roller Derby League fundraiser at the East Brunswick Club

Filed under: rockabilly music, Fundraising, rock music, Gigs — site admin @ 7:32 pm

The Victorian Roller Derby League has had an amazing year over 2011, besides hosting the first two internationally sanctioned games in Australia (Against two of America’s finest teams, Rat City and Texas Roller Girls) as well as being Australia’s number one roller derby league, is now the first WFTDA (Woman’s Flat Track Derby Association) accredited league in Australia.

In conjunction with The East Brunswick Club, The VRDL will be hosting a event on the Australia Day Eve, to assist in funding the VRDL All Stars Travel Team who will be heading to Tucson, Arizona in April 2012 to take part in the invite only Dust Devil Tournament, where they will face off against 12 other WFTDA leagues from around the world!

Artists that will be performing on the evening include
The ReChords, who fresh off the back of their stellar performances at The Meredith Music Festival and the Northcote Social Club will be performing their brand of Rockin’ Hillbilly, Western Swing, Early R&B, Rock-a-billy, supported by The Death Rattles who are “the last sound you’ll hear” Spawned in Melbourne, during the dusty heat of February 2010, an eclectic and exciting 5-piece outfit described as “Introverted Dust Rock” by the Herald Sun as well as Cherrywood who consist of double bass, acoustic guitar, mandolin, a snare drum and a bunch of rowdy vocals. They have an instantly recognizable sound which has lead to full rooms around the country drinking, dancing and general raucousness, and have toured with the likes of Graveyard Train, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Gay Paris, Brothers Grim, and the Puta Madre Bros.

Besides the night offering an awesome selection of bands to get your feel a-tapping, AND a variety of raffle prizes that will be up for grabs, this will be a great opportunity to hang out with some of your favourite roller girls and help get Australia’s top league to the States!

Bands and Derby. What more can you want in an evening?
