Yah Yah’s Gig Guide

Filed under: hip hop / rap music, pop music, punk music, Live Music Venues, rock music — site admin @ 3:47 pm

Thursday 10th December
(EARLY)
ROCK AEROBICS
ROCK AEROBICS is a dance fitness class for lovers of all things rock that sets rock-inspired dance moves to a soundtrack ranging from Blondie and Bowie to AC/DC and Alice Cooper. At ROCK AEROBICS you’ll pogo, skank, shimmy and strut to a monthly rotation of rock anthems. All you need to bring is a pair of sneakers, a towel, $10 and your best rock face (and some spare change for a beer!). Class starts at 7pm. For more info see www.rockaerobics.com.au
7.00pm (One hour class)

(LATER)
CAPGRAS FAMILY (CD LAUNCH)
MID-STATE ORANGE
ITA
ACTOR/SLASH MODEL (ACOUSTIC DUO)
Capgras Family are launching their debut album ‘After Night Fall’ on the 10th of December at Yah Yah’s. Emerging from the ashes of late 90’s/early 00’s local band Lacto-Ovo, Capgras Family features members of bands, (current and past), Sly-Hats, Pets with Pets, Kokonuts, City City City, Mid-State Orange, You Will Die Alone and TM Band. ‘After NightFall’ was recorded by Neil Thomason at Melbourne’s Head Gap studio and was mastered by John Golden. In genre and riddle, ‘After NightFall’ sweeps from the sounds of mellow pop - as octopi strangle time - to rocking surf - as ghouls hit the waves - to slow hypnotic looping - as witches drown - into the fast throttle of a charging rhino and the haunting melancholy of restless worms and cats in the urban landscape at dusk. Supporting them on the night will be popnificent Actor/Slash Model in acoustic mode, long serving stalwarts Mid-State Orange and melodic Kraut champions ITA. May the night fall dreamily upon you.

Friday 11th December
THE PAUL KIDNEY EXPERIENCE
BAD ORCHESTRA
THE SADDISTS
While many Melbournians will be heading up to a farm somewhere between Geelong and Ballarat where good cheese is made, the less adventurous, and possibly more sensible folk, will remain in the comfort of their own homes rather than tackling the summer elements front on. So what can you do on this Friday night with half the gig going population out of town? Have a bloody good night at Yah Yah’s where you’ll be entertained by The Paul Kidney Experience, Bad Orchestra and The Saddists. Seriously, it’s gonna be good and when everyone else gets home from the bush covered in dust, sunburnt and sleep deprived, you’ll still be lounging about sipping mojitos and talking about what a sick Friday night you had at Yah Yah’s.

Saturday 12th December
SPOONFUL
If you’ve frequented one of Melbourne’s finer live music venues over the last decade, there is a good chance that you would have witnessed Spoonful in full flight. You may have danced with them in a late night party frenzy, or recovered with them on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Either way, it’s certain you will have had a good time with one of this city’s most consistent party bands playing the bluesy, soulsy, rock and roll we all love. Their reputation as a live band means that punters always expect a highly charged performance and they always get it. So I guess we’ll be seeing you down at Yah Yah’s this Saturday night for some Spoonful party action.

Sunday 13th December

THE REEFS
THE HORNSWAGGLERS
THE CALICO JACKS
Sundays in summer could not get any better with big-beat reggae rockers The Reefs, who are freshly back from the summer festival season in Germany, combining forces with the folk-punk stylings of The Hornswagglers and reggae kings The Calico Jacks. Putting some swing in your steps and tequila in your sunrise, the antics will be taking place this coming Sunday at Yah Yah’s.
